Shopbox Does Egypt

On February 8, 2016, ten Shopbox employees from our Copenhagen and Stockholm offices had the opportunity to travel to Cairo, Egypt, to meet our new three-person development team in the country’s capital. The trip gave us the chance to combine business and pleasure; while we made sure to tour famous sites such as the Great Pyramid, we also used the opportunity to set goals for the future.

Why Cairo?

Shopbox is an international company. In our Copenhagen office alone, our employees represent over ten different nationalities. As a company, we recognize that the most talented people can be found anywhere.

Enter Cairo. In recent years, a new tech startup scene has emerged in Egypt’s capital as more and more university graduates look to take risks with their big ideas. With a large number of developers helping to make Cairo a technology hub, Shopbox is using this influx of talent to help staff our development team with exceptionally qualified candidates.

Our office in Cairo will therefore be helping our developers in Copenhagen with making Shopbox the best app for your business.

New Environments

Giving our Copenhagen and Stockholm employees the chance to experience Egypt granted everyone the opportunity to explore working in a different environment. Whether brainstorming on our bus rides, having individual meetings at our hotel, or answering customer service calls during our tours, each member found ways to work effectively in diverse environments.

Experiencing a completely new culture in Cairo also allowed us to have new creative inspirations. Sometimes it is necessary to be removed from what you know to get a fresh perspective on an idea.

Life at a Startup

Taking a company trip to Egypt was one of the bigger perks of working at a startup. While our close day-to-day working environments allow employees to collaborate on projects easily, it is sometimes events that take place beyond our office doors that really encourage team bonding. At Shopbox we are proud of the good social culture we have with our co-workers.
