Kvasir Technologies Advances Toward Global Leadership as coming Green Oil Major with Pioneering Biofuel Facility
Copenhagen, Denmark – January 14, 2025
Kvasir Technologies partners with Aabenraa Havn to launch groundbreaking biofuel facility, accelerating the global shift to Sustainable Energy.
Kvasir Technologies, a pioneer in advanced biofuel technology, has entered into a transformative partnership with Aabenraa Havn (Port of Aabenraa) to secure the site for its inaugural First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) commercial biofuel production facility. This milestone marks a pivotal phase in Kvasir’s journey to become a "Green Oil Major," transitioning from a successful demonstration plant under construction in Fredericia set to be finalised later this year, to commercial production.
Unstoppable Momentum: Kvasir’s Rapid Path to Green Energy Leadership
Kvasir is taking bold, proactive steps toward rapid commercialization by initiating the planning of its first FOAK facility and securing land for its construction. With a clear vision and unparalleled ambition, Kvasir is determined to accelerate its evolution into a green energy leader, positioning itself for swift and efficient scaling. While many players in the biofuel market depend on public funding, such as EU subsidies, which can sometimes slow progress, Kvasir is resolutely moving forward with speed and confidence in developing a commercial facility.
Driven by the urgent global need for sustainable solutions and the critical challenges posed by climate change, Kvasir is focused on self-sustained growth. By advancing independently of external financial support, Kvasir ensures an agile development timeline that enables rapid commercialization and amplifies its impact on global sustainability.

The FOAK facility will leverage Kvasir’s patented technology to convert non-edible biomass into drop-in biofuels, providing a scalable and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. This facility will not only lay the groundwork for Kvasir’s global expansion but also set a benchmark for the development of future facilities worldwide.
Strategic Significance of Aabenraa
The selection of Aabenraa Havn as the site for Kvasir’s pioneering facility reflects the strategic advantages of the location. The deep-sea port’s proximity to vital shipping routes and supply chains ensures efficient distribution of Kvasir’s biofuels, meeting the growing demand for clean energy. Additionally, the site offers the opportunity to reuse existing laboratory and production facilities, optimizing both cost and operational efficiency. This supports Kvasir's sustainable business model and enhances the company’s ability to scale quickly, leveraging existing infrastructure to accelerate the production and distribution of its innovative biofuel solutions.
“This collaboration is a defining moment in our pursuit of becoming a Green Oil Major,” stated Ulrik Falkenberg Lending, CCO of Kvasir Technologies. “Aabenraa Havn provides an unparalleled setting for our inaugural commercial facility, enabling us to realize our vision of delivering transformative fuel solutions to decarbonize energy-intensive sectors.”

A Catalyst for Green Transition
The partnership with Kvasir Technologies highlights Aabenraa Havn's ambition to leverage its strategic location and well-established infrastructure to drive the green energy transition. The FOAK biofuel production facility will be situated at Aabenraa Havn, utilizing the former site of the ‘Enstedværket’ power plant for this transformative project. The FOAK facility will be located near the Aabenraa Havn Bulk Terminal, ensuring efficient handling and storage of the required biomass feedstock.
“Aabenraa Havn is uniquely positioned to lead the production and distribution of green fuels,” said Dan Skov Sørensen, Business Developer at Aabenraa Havn. “Our infrastructure, zoning, and commitment to the energy transition provide a strong foundation for groundbreaking initiatives. Partnering with an innovative leader like Kvasir Technologies allows us to accelerate our vision of making Aabenraa Havn a hub for green innovation and a driving force for regional economic growth.”
Aabenraa Havn has been working intensively on its transformative transition strategy for developing the areas surrounding the former Enstedværket power plant. The strategy has been firmly rooted in the underlying technical infrastructure and how it can best be utilized to support and attract new innovative projects.
“We are pleased that Kvasir Technologies has chosen to establish itself in Aabenraa” said Erwin Andresen, Chairman of the Board at Aabenraa Havn. “This partnership between Kvasir Technologies and Aabenraa Havn marks a significant milestone in our green transition strategy and showcases our success in attracting innovative companies within the sustainable energy sector. We look forward to supporting their ambition to become a leader in green energy.”

Scaling a Sustainable Vision
The FOAK facility signifies a transformative step for Kvasir Technologies, showcasing the scalability and economic viability of its proprietary biofuel production process. This facility will serve as a prototype for a global network of biofuel facilities, advancing Kvasir’s mission to address industrial-scale energy demands while adhering to stringent sustainability principles.
The initiative aligns seamlessly with international climate objectives, including the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) mandate to achieve climate-neutral shipping by 2050 as well as EU’s FuelEU Maritime regulation as part of the Fit for 55 to promote the use of renewable fuels in maritime transport that has just come into effect on 1 January 2025. By providing innovative biofuel solutions, Kvasir supports the transition to a low-carbon future.
