Press release -

The Medical Museion and Kunsthal Charlottenborg join forces to present a new extensive exhibition

On September 29, The World is in You opens at Kunsthal Charlottenborg – this year’s major autumn exhibition in collaboration with Medical Museion. Through science, art, and history, it will explore how our bodies are connected to the universe, and will showcase new bio-art, historic artefacts, meteorites and a 7-meter diameter rotating globe.

Exhibition period: 30 September 2021 – 16 January 2022

In the autumn of 2021, Medical Museion will move into Kunsthal Charlottenborg and present the exhibition The World is in You. Through a blend of science, art, and history, it will explore how our bodies are connected to the universe. Our cells detect shifts from day to night, created by the movement of the planet. Things we touch affect the trillions of microbes that live in and on us, which determine how we feel. We exist, for better or worse, within networks of connections - from the microscopic to the planetary.

In the exhibition, visitors will encounter new bio-art, historical objects from Medical Museion’s collections, paintings and video installations, meteorites, the scent of cherries, water pipes from the 18th century, and a 7-meter diameter rotating globe. Each in their own way, these works and objects will bring them back to a core question: what does the world do to us?

Participating artists: Neri Oxman, Ralo Mayer, Katie Paterson, Bradley Pitts, Lucy McRae, Kathy High, Jiwon Woo, Sonja Bäumel, Baum & Leahy, Guston Sondin-Kung, Tine Friis, Marcus Coates, Susan Morris, Till Rabus, Heath Bunting, Isabella Martin, Maya Sialuk Jacobsen, Kaitlynn Redell, Mary Maggic, Pinar Yoldas, Mogens Jacobsen, Anna Dumitriu, Andrew Carnie, Jenna Sutela, Luke Jerram, Revital Cohen & Tuur Van Balen, and others.

The exhibition is curated by Medical Museion and developed in collaboration with the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) at the University of Copenhagen. It is produced in collaboration with Kunsthal Charlottenborg.
