The chairman of The Greater Copenhagen & Skåne Committee: extremely positive that the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link is economically robust

Steen Christiansen, the chairman of The Greater Copenhagen & Skåne Committee, which is a political platform for promoting regional collaboration and economic growth in the municipalities in Eastern Denmark and Skåne in Southern Sweden, regards the analysis published Thursday 11 February by the Danish Ministry of Transport and Building as positive.

The analysis confirms that the economy behind the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link has been restored and is – again - now robust. Therefore, it makes good sense to continue with the ambitious infrastructure project, which will bring a huge boost to the region and strengthen the transport infrastructure of the entire Greater Copenhagen region to Germany and the rest of Europe.

The interregional political collaboration of The Greater Copenhagen & Skåne Committee focuses on generating economic growth and creating jobs in the entire Greater Copenhagen region, and in the Action Plan 2016 (Handlingsplanen 2016) it is also stated that the committee supports the establishment of the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link.

On Thursday 11 February 2016 the Danish Ministry of Transport and Building and Femern A/S published the updated financial analysis of the future Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link. The analysis shows that the economy of the project is robust, which is also confirmed by an external quality assurance performed by the accountancy and consultancy firm, EY, on behalf of the Danish Ministry of Transport and Building.

Steen Christiansen is pleased to see that the just published calculations show that the economy of the project again looks sound, and that a fixed link between Denmark and Germany can be established economically justifiable. This substantiates that the establishment of the project should still be pushed for, as the project is vital for us to further develop the region.

”It is extremely positive that the new financial analysis confirms that the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link is economically robust. The possibilities for the Greater Copenhagen region to generate economic growth and create jobs require a well-functioning infrastructure to and from Europe. Therefore, the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link is very vital for our mutual metropolitan region”, Steen Christiansen, chairman of The Greater Copenhagen & Skåne Committee and Mayor of Albertslund, says.
