Migration: An inter-regional dialogue of champion countries from the Middle East, Africa and the OECD in Rabat on January 26-27

Rabat - An inter-regional dialogue of champion countries from the Middle East, Africa and the OECD on the Global Compact for Secure, Organized and Regular Migration will be held on January 26-27 in Rabat, under the theme: " Peer exchange on implementation and future actions".

Organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Morocco, this inter-regional dialogue confirms the leadership of the Kingdom in the field of migration, which, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, Leader of the African Union on the issue of Migration, conducts a humanistic, comprehensive, pragmatic and active migration policy, placing migrants at the center of its actions and initiatives, said Thursday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, in a statement.

This meeting will be attended by representatives of countries champions of the implementation of the Marrakech Pact, the IOM and the United Nations Network on Migration, from different continents, the statement said.

It thus aims, continues the same source, to mobilize the champion countries of the Marrakech Pact around the progress made after the first International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) held in New York in May 2022, to plan the upcoming African continental review, while establishing a link with the reviews conducted by countries in the MENA region as well as fostering the sharing of good practices and peer learning.

The work of this inter-regional dialogue will contribute to consolidating the important role of the Migration Champion Countries, as well as expanding the number of champion countries through the sharing of lessons learned and best practices, in view of the next regional reviews of the Compact scheduled for 2024, it was added.

The Marrakech Compact on Migration Champion Countries initiative is an open group of 33 states of origin, transit, destination and return, committed to the effective implementation of the Compact, with the aim of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
