Lecture “The War of Ideas: The Moroccan Experience in Fighting Violent Extremism”, by SG of Rabita Muhammadia of Ulama

In a lecture under the title: "The War of Ideas: The Moroccan Experience in Fighting Violent Extremism", the Secretary-General of the Muhammadia League of Scholars (Rabita Muhammadia of Ulama), Dr Ahmed Abbadi, presented facts, arguments and responses on radicalisation and how can this war of ideas be won.

This lecture was given on Wednesday 13 February 2019, in the Royal Library, in Copenhagen and was jointly organised by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Danish Institute for International Studies.

The lecturer, Dr Ahmed Abbadi, is Secretary-General of the Rabita Mohammadia of Ulama, an association of public utility that pursues wisdom, noble values and moderate religious teachings of Islam.

He is also a Member of the Higher Council of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema and the Economic, Social and Environmental Council.

He heads committees within the Higher Council for Education, Training and Scientific Research and the Morocco-USA Strategic Dialogue.

He was previously Director of Islamic Affairs at the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs and served as a Member of the National Council for Human Rights and the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication.

Dr Abbadi is an Emeritus Professor of Comparative History of Religions and Islamic Thought at Cadi Ayyad University, where he obtained his PhD in Islamic Studies. He also teaches at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and Sciences Po Paris.

Having pursued his postdoctoral studies in the history of religions at Paris-Sorbonne University, he also has taught at the University of Chicago and DePaul University. He has published several books and is the author of a number of articles in Moroccan and foreign journals.
