Press release: Twelve new electric trucks for long-haul routes in the DACHSER network

Brummer Logistik in Neuburg am Inn is one of the first customers for the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 e-trucks

Kempten/Neuburg am Inn, 04.02.2025 - The e-truck fleet in the Dachser network is growing: twelve Mercedes-Benz eActros 600s were delivered to the German-Austrian subsidiary Brummer Logistik in mid-December. The vehicles, which have a range of around 500 kilometers, will be used for regional and long-distance food transport.

Series production of the battery-electric 40-ton trucks from Mercedes-Benz Trucks started at the end of 2024. Brummer Logistik is one of the first recipient of the heavy-duty electric trucks. "We have high hopes for the new eActros 600 and want to integrate the electric trucks into our transport planning as a replacement for conventional diesel vehicles," explains Max Reih, Managing Director of Brummer Logistik GmbH. "The decisive factor here is that the vehicles achieve a range of 500 kilometers on a single battery charge. The expected mileage of around 90,000 kilometers per year suits our requirements and purposes." The plan is to use the vehicles for long distance transport in Germany and Austria as well as for regional deliveries, for example to food retailers.

"The deployment of the first eActros 600 in the DACHSER network is another milestone for us in the transition to zero-emission drives," adds Alexander Tonn, COO Road Logistics at Dachser. "More and more battery-electric tractor units are now coming onto the market for heavy-duty transport, and the ranges are also increasing. As an impulse generator in the field of sustainability, it is important for us to put these vehicles into practical use quickly in order to gain further experience with electromobility, especially in long-distance transport." 14 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600s are to be deployed at six other Dachser locations in Europe over the next few months.

Investment in the charging infrastructure

The eActros 600 tractor unit has a battery capacity of 600 kilowatt hours and a continuous electric output of 400 kW and a peak output of 600 kW. The use of twelve eActros 600s in regular transport operations at Brummer Logistik therefore necessitated extensive investment in the charging infrastructure at the Neuburg am Inn site. In recent months, fast charging stations with a total of eleven fixed and two mobile charging points have been installed there, where the new e-trucks can be charged quickly and exclusively with green electricity at up to 400 kW. The power supply is supported by photovoltaic systems on the hall roofs with a total of 2,900 kWp and a newly procured battery storage system with a capacity of 3,680 kWh.

The new Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 are the first battery-electric vehicles at the Brummer site in Neuburg am Inn. "The aim is to convert a substantial part of our own vehicle fleet of currently 312 units to battery-electric vehicles over the next few years," says Brummer Managing Director Max Reih. The purchase of the twelve vehicles and the charging infrastructure was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport with a total of 4,680,334 euros as part of the directive on the promotion of light and heavy commercial vehicles with alternative, climate-friendly drive systems and associated refueling and charging infrastructure (KsNI). The funding guideline has now expired, but the subsidized vehicles were not available until now. It was coordinated by NOW GmbH and applications were approved by the German Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility.

Electromobility for more climate protection

Dachser is pursuing a long-term climate protection strategy and, with a focus on efficiency, innovation and integrative responsibility, is driving the change towards more sustainable logistics together with customers and partners. The company has been using battery-powered electric trucks since 2018, including as part of the sustainable city delivery concept "DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery". The vehicle fleet with alternative drive systems is constantly being expanded in the short and long-distance sector. The twelve new eActros 600s complement the more than 100 e-trucks that are now in operation for DACHSER across Europe in local and long-distance transport.

Dachser has set up three e-mobility sites in Freiburg, Hamburg and Malsch near Karlsruhe for practical tests and research into climate-friendly technologies as well as electricity and load management. Different types of zero-emission vehicles are being used here and extensive investments are being made in the charging infrastructure. The e-mobility sites are intended to help increase the number of zero-emission vehicles in the entire European DACHSER network in the long term and achieve the goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.
