Press release: Dachser hires 642 junior staff throughout Germany

Kempten, September 18, 2024 – At the start of Germany’s training cycle, the logistics provider welcomed a total of 616 new apprentices in 13 different industrial and commercial professions at its German locations. In addition, 22 students on various dual work-study programs will be completing their practical phases at Dachser, and four trainees will start the Young Professionals trainee program in October.

Future-proof logistics is defined by quality—of both the service and the people who provide it. That’s why Dachser continues to rely on in-house training, so that it can later fill demanding positions from its own ranks. On September 1, 286 freight forwarding and logistics agents, 127 warehouse specialists, and 94 drivers—a similar number to last year—began their training at the logistics provider throughout Germany. They will be joined in October by 22 young people who will begin dual work-study programs focusing on various specialisms, among them Business Administration – Controlling and Consulting; Business Administration – Freight Forwarding, Transport, and Logistics; and Transport and Logistics Management. Four people will also start the Young Professionals trainee program.

A strong network

“The strength of our organization lies above all in our network of people who share a passion for logistics. Without them, the wheels of our industry would stop turning,” says Burkhard Eling, Dachser CEO. “Anyone who wants to move the world and work in a team to shape the future will find that Dachser offers attractive and future-proof jobs in a stable family-owned company with a long-term perspective. I’m delighted that so many young people have chosen to start out on their careers at Dachser again this year.”

Appreciation, prospects, and personal responsibility are important factors in making logistics appealing to young people, Eling continues: “They’re also pillars of our global ‘Logistics is People Business’ HR strategy, through which we aim to create an appreciative and collaborative working environment for our employees at all levels.” At Dachser, this includes promoting young people’s social skills in addition to high-quality vocational training. Once its employees have completed their training, the family-owned company makes a point of ensuring they receive further training and development.

Dachser’s training rate in Germany is unchanged at about 10 percent. Across Germany, the family-owned company currently has 1,661 apprentices and 131 students in its three-year programs and 9 trainees. Dachser is now one of the largest training companies for professional drivers in Germany: each year for the past ten years, some 100 apprentices have started their careers at Dachser in this field.

Worldwide, roughly 2,400 young people are either training or studying at Dachser, meaning the company has an international training rate of 7 percent.
