CMP, E.ON, Nordion Energi, Sysav and Uniper have signed a partnership agreement for the development of a CO2 hub in Malmö. The collaboration is part of the regional project Carbon Network South Sweden, CNetSS, and will carry out feasibility studies to investigate the conditions for an intermediate storage facility in Norra Hamnen.

This Tuesday, a broad political majority reached an agreement that will seriously boost carbon capture on Danish soil as a vitally important tool to achieve the national greenhouse gas emissions target of a 70% reduction by 2030.
The EU Innovation Fund has recently identified the projects that will receive a part of €1 billion which will be handed out to innovative projects within the green transition. 500,000 tonnes of CO₂ will be removed from the atmosphere annually, which will significantly contribute to Copenhagen’s goal of becoming the world’s first carbon neutral capital by 2025. These are the goals of a new CO₂ capture facility at Amager Bakke, where CMP is an integral part of the joint efforts with Amager Resource Centre (ARC).
€120 million for a full-scale CO2 capture facility is now almost within reach. ARC’s and CMP’s joint project has gone ahead in the elimination race for funds from the EU’s Innovation Fund.
With the C4 cluster, a number of major utility companies in the Copenhagen metropolitan area seek to make carbon capture a crucial element in the green transition in Denmark. CO2 reductions of around 3 million tonnes per year are possible, if the Danish Parliament shows the requisite political will.
