CMP Welcomes Ocean Albatros in Christening Ceremony in Copenhagen

Copenhagen today played host to a christening ceremony for the state-of-the-art expedition vessel, the Ocean Albatros, at Nordre Toldbod.

The christening ceremony was a moment of pride for the Danish family-owned company Albatros Expeditions, as the ceremony unfolded in the heart of the country's capital. Guests of the ceremony were given the opportunity to step aboard the Ocean Albatros and receive a guided tour. This firsthand experience allowed them to appreciate the elegant interiors and technical features that set this vessel apart.

The day concluded with a christening with a block of ice on the bow, a moment of celebration as Albatros Expeditions officially welcomed the Ocean Albatros into its fleet.

The event marks the third name-giving ceremony of a state-of-the art vessel at CMP in Copenhagen within the last year and is a testimony to the region, city and port’s strong maritime heritage and modern commercial terminal facilities. Nordre Toldbod represents, together with Langelinie and Oceankaj, the cruise facilities of CMP in Copenhagen, enabling the port to welcome vessels of all types and sizes.

The Ocean Albatros, a sister ship to the Ocean Victory, has a capacity of 189 passengers and 100 crew. The vessel is equipped with one of the highest Polar code 6 and Ice class 1A, making it an ideal vessel for small-ship cruising in Artic and Antarctic conditions. It also has 4 diesel engines and 2 electro engines, all controlled electronically to optimize speed and fuel consumption.

The day preceding the ceremony, CMP’s Harbour Master delivered the shield of Copenhagen Malmö Port to the ship’s captain, as prescribed by maritime tradition when a ship calls a port for the first time.
