CMP to lift even heavier loads

A new phase is now beginning within CMP’s assignment to handle and store the cable reels used in converting the Danish grid to underground cables.

The laying of new electricity cables is an exciting project, not only for electricity consumers, but also for CMP. Since 2016, the terminal in Copenhagen has been receiving, storing and delivering cable reels with underground and submarine cables for Jumbo Transport, who are delivering the logistics solution from the factory to their ultimate destination.

“We’re in the process of handling the final batch of 19 cable reels this year, which are destined for Helsingør,” says Henrik Poulsen, Logistics Sales Manager, Port & Terminal Operations at CMP in Copenhagen. “But that’s not the end of it. CMP will be continuing its collaboration with Jumbo Transport in 2018.

“Another addition to our handling of cable reels is the receipt of a batch of heavier cable reels, each weighing 24 tonnes. These are submarine cables that will be delivered directly from our terminal to a cable-laying vessel over the quayside.

“We have shown that CMP and the business segment P&TO Logistik is able to satisfy our customers’ logistical needs and meet the challenges they encounter in their projects, and contribute as a sparring partner to the optimisation of the logistics chain. This has made CMP a stable supplier, with the capacity and competence to deliver far more than customers expect,” says Henrik Poulsen.

Another major project in which CMP is a sparring partner is the construction of the new loop for the Copenhagen Metro. This has seen the terminal’s employees receiving, unpacking and storing escalators for Kone A/S for the large number of new stations. The project is 60% complete and is expected to be concluded in March 2018.
