New natural blue color for confectionary in the U.S.

Chr. Hansen now offers a very bright and attractive blue shade to enhance the appeal of your candy or chewing gum!

Chr. Hansen’s Natural Colors Division launches natural blue for the confectionary and gum industry in the United States. The new natural blue colorant is based on Spirulina, a blue-green algae occurring naturally in tropical and subtropical lakes. Spirulina has a long historic record of accomplishment for many applications across many markets. It provides bright vivid blue and green shades and it can be used various types of confectionary, including panned candy, and chewy candy, jelly gum/gummy candy, extruded candy and chewing gum.

Approved by the FDA
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Spirulina to be used as colorant in confectionary and chewing gum in the U.S and the color is in full compliance with Federal Regulation.

“Consumers have been long awaiting a natural blue and green for the confectionary industry. Spirulina provides a radiant blue and a foundation for natural green blends,” says Kurt Seagrist, Senior Vice President, Natural Colors Division, U.S.

Chr. Hansen provides six liquid and powder product formulas, under the SweetColor™ product line for use in confectionary and gum. The products are safeguarded for micro and bio issues and verified by third party certified auditors. Contact us and let us help you find the product to fit your needs.
