New kosher grape skin extract expands Chr. Hansen’s palette of natural colors
Certified by OK Kosher Certification, the new grape skin extract product offers beverage manufacturers vivid and stable red hues for use in kosher certified beverages as well as a kosher source of grape skin derived polyphenols for use in the dietary supplement industry.
While Chr. Hansen’s grape skin extract products have always provided beautiful red shades in beverages, their use in the United States have been limited by their kosher status. Chr. Hansen, a global frontrunner in natural colors, is pleased to announce that it have developed a Circle K certified grape skin extract, AC 12k WSP, to serve the US beverage and dietary supplement industries.
Meets all requirements
“After many customer requests in the United Sates for kosher grape skin extract products, Chr. Hansen has partnered with Circle K and wineries producing kosher wines in Italy and France to produce AC 12k WSP,” say Tim Effertz, Sr. Product Manager, Chr. Hansen’s Color Division. “This product meets all the requirements as outlined in Jewish dietary law while providing stable, beautiful red shades in low pH beverage applications in a convenient powder form.”
Over the past four years, US kosher non-alcoholic beverage product launches have increased dramatically with an annual compounded growth rate of 66%, according to Mintel’s GNPD.
Chr. Hansen is a pioneer in the world of anthocyanins. The first production took place in the early 1970s on the outskirts of Montpellier, right in the heart of the Southern French vineyard. The first anthocyanins which were extracted came from grape skins, blackcurrant skins and elderberry. Today, other potent raw materials used in Chr. Hansen’s anthocyanin-based blends are black carrot, sweet potato, red cabbage and red radish.
