A drop a day keeps the doctor away
Chr. Hansen now introduces probiotic oil drops for infants and young children.
The human gut microbiota — the collective bacteria in our digestive system — contains billions of bacteria, including bifidobacteria. The gut microbiota is established in early infancy and it plays an important role in the development and function of the digestive and immune system.
Chr. Hansen is proud to present a new probiotic product which has the potential to improve the gut and immune health of infants and young children: probiotic drops containing Chr. Hansen’s bacteria strain BB-12® and sunflower oil.
“Mothers want the best for their children, and with our probiotic drops, they will have a convenient and user-friendly solution at hand which emphasizes safety and efficacy,” says Chr. Hansen’s Lasse Nagell, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Human Health & Nutrition.
Safety is key
“As safety is absolutely key for mothers we have chosen the probiotic strain BB-12® for our probiotic drops. BB-12® has a long history of use and has been tested in numerous clinical studies from new-born preterm infants to elderly. The strain, which is the best documented bifidobacterium in the world, has shown documented efficacy in infants and young children in the digestive and immune system,” Nagell explains.
The competitive edge
Chr. Hansen’s probiotic drops contain very few ingredients to ensure a clean and simple product. Notably, the drops do not contain the substance silicon dioxide (SiO2), which is present in other similar products available on the market. SiO2 is not allowed in infant formula, and may imply regulatory challenges in dietary supplements in some countries.
“Infant dietary standard”
“Probiotic drops are considered a dietary supplement. However, with the objective to offer our customers an even safer product we apply much stricter criteria than set by the authorities – e.g. in relation to contaminant limits and the monitoring of raw materials. Here we use the same high standard as for our infant formula products,” Lasse Nagell says.
