Cavotec highlights benefits of automated mooring at TOC Asia
Cavotec will once again be exhibiting at TOC Asia, one of global shipping's top events, which will be held in Singapore at the end of April. During the show, Mike Howie, one of our automated mooring experts, will deliver a speech at an innovation session about the safety, operational and operational benefits of our unique MoorMaster™ automated mooring technology.
In a presentation entitled 'Automated Mooring Enabling Full Terminal Automation', Howie will explain how MoorMaster™ automated mooring mitigates the key safety, operational and environmental issues typically associated with conventional mooring techniques.
The speech will form part of the event's TECH TOC seminars, described by TOC as "a platform for all stakeholders in port and terminal efficiency to come together, share experiences and expertise, and map out solutions to common current and future challenges."
MoorMaster™ is a vacuum-based automated mooring technology that eliminates the need for conventional mooring lines. Remote controlled vacuum pads recessed in, or mounted on the quayside or pontoons, moor and release vessels in seconds.
"Conventional mooring is slow, it can lower cargo handling rates, it's labour intensive, and is extremely dangerous to landside and on-board personnel," says Howie.
"Automated mooring solves all these issues - and more - by enabling the completion of mooring in seconds, by reducing vessel motion once moored, and by removing the manual labour aspect of mooring. Furthermore, due to the stable vessel platform, cargo rates can be increased and full automation of STS cranes is greatly simplified," he adds.
To date, more than 250 MoorMaster™ units have completed an estimated 265,000 moorings at 46 passenger ferry, bulk and container handling, Ro/Ro, lock and offshore applications worldwide.
This year's TOC Asia will be held on April 25 and 26 at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Come and chat with Cavotec experts at stand E44.
