First electric flying ferry will make Stockholm’s waterborne public transport faster than cars and subway

The world’s fastest electric ship, the Candela P-12 Shuttle, is set to hit Stockholm’s waters in 2024, heralding a new era of seaborne transport. The innovative hydrofoiling electric ferry will reduce emissions and slash commuting times – and the city believes it will make waterborne public transport more attractive than trains, buses, and cars.

The first Candela P-12 Shuttle ferry will be sea trialled in Stockholm next year.

Ship emissions can be cut by 97.5%, by switching to foiling electric vessels, says Swedish study

CO2 emissions from ships could be reduced by 97.5% by switching from diesel vessels to a new type of electric hydrofoiling ship, according to a new study from Stockholm's Royal Institute of Technology.

The Candela P-12 is the first electric hydrofoil ferry. Because it doesn't produce a wake at high speeds, it can operate in urban waters where no-wake zones restrict traditional high-speed ferries
