The average temperature in Vancouver at the beginning of July is a balmy 21 degrees. The same goes for Toronto.

Canada Day is one of the nation's annual public holidays, and it occurs on July 1 every year. It marks the anniversary of the enactment of the Constitution Act, which united three colonies into one country called Canada in 1867.
This holiday is also known as "Canada's Birthday" or "Fête du Canada" in French. It is a day for Canadians to come together and celebrate their country's history, diversity, and achievements.
THE AUGUST LONG WEEKEND - SATURDAY, AUGUST 3 TO MONDAY, AUGUST 5
The Long Weekend, which falls on the first Monday of August each year, can be traced back to the mid-19th century in Toronto, when the city council created one of the first statutory holidays to give citizens a day of recreation.
In true Canadian style, communities have used it over the centuries to meet and greet around dinner tables, barbeques, communal parks, and beaches.
Some families see it as an opportunity to get the young ones out into the big outdoors, too. Camping is an extremely popular pastime in Canada, and there is no better time to explore the country's incredible landscape than those national holidays in August.
LABOUR DAY LONG WEEKEND - SATURDAY, AUGUST 31 TO MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2
Citizens in Canada have the 1872 printers' strike in Toronto to thank for this time off.
The strike lasted for nine days and was organised by the Toronto Typographical Union (TTU) in response to poor working conditions and low wages. It was cited as "one of the most important events in Canadian labour history" by historian Robert H. Babcock.
It played a pivotal role in establishing Labour Day in Canada because it forced the Canadian government to view workers differently.
In 1894, Prime Minister John Thompson declared Labor Day a national holiday in Canada, making it one of the first countries to recognize this day officially.
NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION - SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 TO MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30
The National Truth and Reconciliation Day is a relatively new federal statutory holiday in Canada, observed on September 30th. This date was chosen to honour the survivors of residential schools and to remember those who did not survive.
The origins of this day can be traced back to the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement in 2007, which included the creation of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). The TRC was tasked with documenting the history and impact of residential schools on Indigenous communities, as well as facilitating reconciliation between Indigenous peoples and non-Indigenous Canadians.
It doesn't always fall on a weekend, but this year, workers can look forward to reflecting on a troubled period of Canada's history in one of the most diverse and multicultural societies in the world today.
THANKSGIVING LONG WEEKEND - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12 TO MONDAY, OCTOBER 14
Celebrated on the second Monday of every October, the purpose of this holiday is to give thanks for a bountiful harvest and all the blessings received throughout the year.
The origins of Thanksgiving in Canada can be traced back to 1578 when an English explorer named Martin Frobisher held a ceremony in Newfoundland to give thanks for surviving a long and difficult journey.
Over time, its significance and meaning has developed.
It remains one of the most popular Canadian national holidays.
REMEMBRANCE DAY - SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9 TO MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1
A day to honour and remember the sacrifices made by Canadian soldiers in both World Wars, as well as other conflicts and peacekeeping missions, Remembrance Day is one of the most important statutory holidays in Canada.
The country gathers as one to pause and acknowledge the incredible sacrifices of brave Canadian men and women in the field of battle.
