Munich, September 1, 2021 (BSH) – As Europe’s leading home appliance manufacturer, BSH Home Appliances (BSH) is focusing its business activities on digitalization and sustainability. The primary goal continues to be to constantly improve convenience and quality of life for consumers in their own homes.
Digitalization and connectivity of home appliances save time and make everyday life easier. With automated and personalized processes, smart home appliances help people to concentrate on the really important things in life. “With our Home Connect ecosystem, launched in 2014, we are pioneers of the connected kitchen. To date, the Home Connect app has been downloaded more than two million times and is available in 49 countries and 27 languages,” says Volker Klodwig, Head of Sales for Central and Eastern Europe at BSH Home Appliances. “At BSH, we aim to offer integrated IoT solutions comprising connected home appliances, digital features, and services that can provide valuable support to consumers in doing the housework and having a healthy diet.”
Connected home appliances are real everyday helpers
Consumers today recognize more and more often the specific added value of smart home appliances. Practical everyday aids such as the independent selection of the best and most efficient dryer program based on the washing machine program, or a note via the Home Connect app that the tabs for the dishwasher are running out, immediately make everyday life easier. Added to that are data-driven services such as remote diagnoses and repairs by the BSH Customer Service, doing away with ever frequent call-outs and the major organizational coordination effort they often entail.
BSH is focusing on the circular economy and sustainable business models
Digitalization also leads to new business models – also specifically those that are not just digital but also sustainable. BSH is investing, among other things, BlueMovement, the rental scheme for home appliances. The idea behind BlueMovement is closely connected to the idea of the circular economy. Consumers can use the home appliances via a monthly rental payment. This sharing economy model is increasingly in line with new needs on the part of consumers who are focusing more and more on values such as sustainability and flexibility. By renting out new and reconditioned appliances, and recycling them at the end of their service life, BlueMovement is contributing to long-term conservation of resources and a growing sustainability offering at BSH. In Germany, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers and fridges from the Bosch brand can currently be rented. “When it comes to sustainability, our entire organization assumes responsibility. Our aim is to turn every business decision made into one that is sustainable,” says Volker Klodwig, underscoring the BSH’s activities. “That ranges from issues about reducing carbon emissions in production and logistics, to the sustainable further development of our products and services, and to educating consumers. For example, a dishwasher uses about ten times less water than is needed for washing up by hand – and using 63 percent less electricity. With a modern dishwasher, consumers therefore not only save themselves the annoying washing up but also costs for electricity and water – and protect the environment.”
For the BSH brands, the goal is also to be sustainable and smart
Alongside digitalization and sustainability, BSH has always stood for its strong brands. The new Smart Kitchen Dock from Siemens, a global innovation, developed in cooperation with Alexa, the new flexible refrigerators from NEFF, whose interior adapts to the needs of each individual, the sustainable fridge-freezer combinations from Bosch, or the perfect ventilation solutions from Gaggenau are just a few examples of how BSH offers the right product for each consumer.
