Ultra-fast charging system of ADS-TEC Energy complies with calibration law and meets legal requirements for public charging

- Paid DC charging must comply with calibration laws in Germany, but only few manufacturers on the market meet these standards.

- ADS-TEC Energy's ChargeBox 320 kW ultra-fast charging system provides with calibration compliance a future-proof platform for automotive manufacturers, OEMs, utilities and charging operators

NÜRTINGEN, Germany – June 1, 2022 Currently, more than ever, investments are being made in charging infrastructure, and the demand for fast DC charging options in particular is growing strongly. What many charging point operators are not aware of: as soon as electricity is sold, the billing must comply with consumer protection, because public charging is subject to calibration law since 2019 according to German law. A publication of the international standard for DC energy meters is still planned for summer 2022. At its core, it is about transparency and data security. Charging in compliance with calibration law ensures that customers only pay for what they actually receive.

The majority of DC charging stations installed to date do not comply with these guidelines. This means that these charging points must be retrofitted accordingly or the columns can no longer be used for public operation sooner or later. Depending on the manufacturer, a retrofit can cost more than replacing the entire charging station, and the installation space does not allow for a retrofit everywhere.

Not only energy suppliers and charging station operators, but also more and more companies with company fleets are confronted with the question of how to handle the operation of charging stations due to this legal situation. A distinction is made between internal and external charging offer. As soon as paid charging is offered for external users, for example for guests or neighbors, the charging station must comply with calibration law. The same applies to publicly or partially publicly accessible charging.

There are only a handful of manufacturers on the market that offer DC fast charging stations that comply with calibration law and thus enable future-proof charging. ADS-TEC Energy is one of those few manufacturers. "With our ultra-fast charging stations, we address the charging of the future. Today, our storage technology already enables charging within minutes, regardless of location, even in the power-limited distribution grid. Compliance with calibration laws underlines our claim to innovation and makes our charging stations a future-proof investment. With over a thousand charging points installed and an increasing demand, we see our solution as an important cornerstone in the infrastructure of the future," says Dr. Thorsten Ochs, CTO of ADS-TEC Energy.

Ultra-fast charging systems from ADS-TEC Energy are therefore an ideal platform on which customers such as car manufacturers, OEMs, utilities and charging operators can build their business models to offer private, public or mixed charging to their end customers, depending on their needs.
