Nidec Starts Shipping OCP-standard, In-rack-type, 4U-size 250KW CDU to Supermicro

Nidec Corporation (TSE: 6594; OTC US: NJDCY) (“Nidec”) today announced that it has started shipping (as the first company in the world to do so)* a CDU (Coolant Distribution Unit) as a new in-rack-type cooling solution for next-generation data centers. This latest product, jointly developed with Supermicro Computer Inc. (“Supermicro”), possesses a 4U-size, 250kW cooling capability, and meets the OCP (Open Compute Project) standard.

This CDU, which is capable of providing the cooling performance required for the NVL72 server system equipped with 36 units of GB200 (the latest GPU released by NVIDIA Corporation (“NVIDIA”)), realizes high-performance, high-computing density server racks as a complete rack solution.

The CPU has the following features:

4U in size and high-cooling capacity

Achieves 2.5 times the cooling capacity with the same 4U size as the conventional product

Meets the OCP standard

Compatible with a chassis size, power system, and piping interface that comply with the OCP standards adopted in many data centers.

Equipped with a hot-swap functionality

Pumps, power units and control boards are replaceable without shutting down the servers and CDU

Uses pumps internally produced by Nidec

Equipped with compact, high-output, and power-saving pumps newly developed by Nidec Power Train Systems Corporation (a Nidec Group company with long years of experience with automotive products), the CDU boasts industry-leading high output and reliability per unit volume.

Our in-rack, high-performance CDUs contribute to Supermicro's dominance in the AI server market by enabling low-cost, short-term installation of NVIDIA NVL72 server systems in AI data center construction, thanks to their high space efficiency and installation flexibility.

As a thermal solution vendor, we are committed to helping our customers reduce their total cost of ownership (TCO) by providing a wide range of cooling solutions that meet the needs of the industry and promote the efficient operation of data centers.

In addition, we will continue to contribute to the realization of a convenient AI society and the preservation of the global environment by addressing the challenges of the recent increase in power consumption in data centers.

*Nidec is the world’s first company to mass-produce 4U-size CDUs with a 250kW cooling performance.
