Press release -

Runnyhoneys supports Make May Purple for stroke

A women’s running club in Petersfield is inviting local residents to join them on a 5k run at Petersfield Heath on Sunday 13 May, to help Make May Purple for Stroke.

The club, named runnyhoneys, was created to help women in the area enjoy running and get active. For the past four years the club has supported the Stroke Association’s national awareness month Make May Purple.

Sue Browne, running leader and Head Honey said: “We love supporting the Stroke Association every year. Many members from our club have been touched in some way by stroke, so it continues to be a charity that resonates with our runners. Some of our runners have additionally raised money this year by running races for the Stroke Association at the Southampton Marathon, The Great South Run and The Manchester Marathon.

“The Stroke Association is a cause that’s close to all our hearts. Knowing that the funds we’ll raise will help other families affected by stroke spurs us on across the finish line.”

The Stroke Association is calling on everyone to sign up to Make May Purple in 2018. During the month of May, the charity is encouraging everyone to go purple pounds and raise vital funds for its work supporting people who have been affected by stroke.

The charity will also be offering free blood pressure checks and more information about stroke for local residents. Mandy Souter, Support Coordinator at the Stroke Association, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the runnyhoneys for choosing to support the Stroke Association. In the UK stroke is the leading cause of disability and there are 1.2 million people living with the physical and emotional after effects. The money raised through events like this one in Make May Purple for Stroke, will enable the charity to support many more stroke survivors regain their independence.”

The run is open to all ages. For more information and to book your place, please visit:www.fullonsport.com/event/peef-heath-5k-2018/profile
