Leicester Postmaster Hemandra ‘H’ Hindocha celebrates 40 years’ Post Office service

Leicester Postmaster Hemandra Hindocha has celebrated 40 years’ service with the Post Office.

Hemandra, or ‘H’ as he is known to his customers, began his Post Office career on 26 June 1981 when he became postmaster of Regent Square Post Office, Northampton. He ran the branch for seven years before applying for a Postmaster vacancy at Westcotes Post Office, Leicester. He has served his community as a Postmaster there for 33 years.

Although 69 years old, customers will be relieved to hear that ‘H’ has no immediate plans to retire and he is looking forward to serving his loyal customers for many more years.

Postmaster Hemandra ‘H’ Hindocha said:

“I am really proud to have worked for the Post Office for such a long time and I am delighted to be recognised for my long service. It is amazing to think I have successfully run Post Office branches for a total of 40 years.

“Of course, I could not have reached this incredible milestone without the wonderful support of my wife Kirti, daughter and son-in- law Nisha and Bhavesh, grandson Saiyan and my son Sameet. Special thanks must also go to my wonderful team here at Westcotes namely Kamlesh, Bharti and Bhavna who have worked with me for over 16 years.”

Amanda Jones, Post Office Retail and Franchise Network Director was on hand to present Hemandra with a 40 years’ Long Service Award, cake and flowers to thank ‘H’ for all his hard work for his community and Postmasters across Leicestershire.

Amanda Jones said: “H is one of our incredible Postmasters. He goes the extra mile for his community and he goes above and beyond to support fellow Postmasters. He is knowledgeable, approachable, caring and positive. So many Post Offices have benefited from his help and guidance over the years.”

Although Hemandra notched up 40 years’ service in June he wanted to celebrate his achievement, once Covid restrictions were eased, with a special meal with 45 local Postmasters which will take place tonight (28 July).

During his career with the Post Office ‘H’ has not only provided exceptional service to his loyal customers, he has also run several other branches in the area, on an interim basis, in order to maintain vital Post Office services to customers. He has also taken the time to assist other less experienced postmasters in the Midlands area. Understanding only too well the responsibility of being a postmaster, ‘H’ along with Melrose postmaster Vijay Kanabar set up a postmaster support group for the Midlands area. The group is on hand to offer advice and guidance to recently appointed operators.
