Easter treats for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity and meals for the homeless

The impact of COVID-19 has no doubt had a devastating impact on charities, yet many have seen a surge in demand for their services, placing existential pressure on them like never before.

That is why Midlands based accountants and business advisors, Smith Cooper, have pledged to support a variety of different charities in the coming year, on both a local and national scale.

In recent years, Smith Cooper have partnered with a single Charity of the Year, chosen by their staff, and have previously supported the National Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline, Appeal 4 Alfie, Air Ambulance and Treetops Hospice in recent years.

But now, due to COVID-19 constraints and the impact it has had on a swathe of charities up and down the country, the firm as a collective has decided to reconsider the way in which they support charities, opting to support a variety of different, seasonal charitable campaigns throughout the year.

As part of their Easter charity campaign, staff at Smith Cooper supported Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity via their virtual easter egg campaign, raising funds for 50 virtual eggs. The charity is unable to accept physical eggs this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, so instead all funds raised will go towards providing patient and family entertainment, such as musical sing-along sessions, to continue to offer the children the best patient experience whilst at the hospital.

Smith Cooper have also donated 212 meals to support the homeless charity Barnabus, thanks to charity partner Wellbox. Smith Cooper sent all staff Easter letterbox gifts from Wellbox, whose partnership with homeless shelters and food banks across the UK means they’re able to provide a meal to a person in need for each gift box purchased.

Stephen Newman, Partner at Smith Cooper’s Birmingham office, comments “By supporting various charities throughout the year, we hope to maximise our fundraising activities as we continue to work from home.”

“We’re proud of the way our staff have embraced the opportunity to support different charities and causes - at the start of the year, some of our staff took part in Red January, ran by Sport in Mind, and we have many more campaigns to look forward to later in the year.”
