Press release -

Hitachi Rail Europe to launch interior concepts for a British bullet train: NEC, Birmingham, 12-14 May, Stand J11

Hitachi Rail Europe will be showcasing its headline vision for the future of high speed rail in the UK at this year’s Railtex.

The vision encompasses Hitachi’s expertise in delivering rolling stock for HS1 and the iconic Shinkansen trains in Japan. Following extensive user research and passenger studies, Hitachi has developed a conceptual train interior in which the central focus is user experience.

The design draws upon key influences from existing and influential rolling stock in the UK and looks forward to address the needs of future passengers, providing a train that has the flexibility to grow and evolve with society.

Design influences have been extended beyond rail to also examine the automotive and aeronautical industries, creating a balance between comfort, speed, efficiency and aesthetics. The interior images and design theory will be launched as a global exclusive to the rail industry at Railtex through the use of 3D imaging and a fully immersive virtual reality walk-through.

In addition, the Hitachi stand will offer details of the Class 800/801 train for the Department for Transport’s InterCity Express Programme and an update on the state-of-the-art rail vehicle manufacturing facility in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, which will open in autumn of this year.

The facility will create 730 jobs in the region and thousands more in the wider UK supply chain, underpinning apprenticeships and engineering skills development across the rail community.

Railtex is the rail sector’s showcase event of the year, where technological innovation and train transport of the future will be demonstrated and presented to the industry supply chain. Railtex provides an opportunity for companies serving the rail market to highlight their capabilities and showcase their products and services.

Railtex, is being held from 12-14 May at the NEC in Birmingham. Hitachi Rail Europe is proud to be exhibiting once again at this important industry event.
