Hitachi Rail and EASIER to supply the Abidjan rail line in Côte d'Ivoire with a complete ticketing system
- Abidjan's first metro line is 37.4 km long, from the north (Anyama Centre station) to the south (Aéroport Sud station), with 20 stations
- Ticketing solution will support 500,000 to 1 million passengers per day
- Hitachi Rail’s TRANSCITYTM solution will simplify access and payment for mobility services.
Hitachi Rail and EASIER have been awarded a contract by Colas Rail to supply its TRANSCITYTM ticketing solution for the first metro line in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. The ambitious project is designed to meet the high demand for mobility in the Abidjan district.
Hitachi Rail’s comprehensive ticketing solution will enable the Abidjan metropolitan area to relieve congestion, which currently relies on a single bus network. The system will be future-proofed with the potential for future interoperability with the city's other transport networks. Partial commissioning of the metro (northern line) is planned for 2027 and full commissioning in 2028.
Hitachi Rail’s TRANSCITYTMsolution simplifies access and payment of mobility services, making travel more affordable and sustainable. It optimises operating costs for transport authorities and enables revenue to be shared between the operators of interoperable systems. In Abidjan, TRANSCITYTMwill integrate payment by mobile phone and QRCode, and includes a state-of-the-art back office system.
The solution will be supported by 330 access control swing gates spread across 20 stations and supplied by EASIER, to quickly control fares and passenger flows in the metro. Ticket vending machines (TVM), ticket office machines (TOM) and portable vending machines (PVU) will also be installed in each station.
The Abidjan project further underlines Hitachi Rail’s expertise in providing ticketing solutions on the African continent, with a track record of delivering in Algeria, Senegal, Egypt and South Africa.
