Swedavia works continuously in partnership with the Swedish Police Authority, other authorities and companies to ensure the highest level of security possible at its airports and welcomes plans for a security clearances review and the improved sharing of information.
Now it will be even easier to fly from Visby Airport. On Wednesday, February 20, a new, modern and integrated bag drop system will be inaugurated at the airport. Visby Airport will thus be one of the first airports in the Nordic region to offer a fully integrated bag drop system.
The airport group Swedavia has reported an operating profit of 682 million Swedish kronor for 2018, when more than 42 million passengers flew to or from Swedavia’s airports. Meanwhile, the Group continued its investments in bio jet fuel and its work to achieve the target of zero fossil carbon dioxide emissions from its own operations. This information was published in Swedavia’s year-end report.
In January, almost 2,830,000 passengers flew to or from Swedavia’s ten airports, a decrease of nearly three per cent compared to the same month in 2018. At several of the regional airports, international travel increased while domestic travel decreased during the month.
Now all visitors to the World Ski Championships will be able to check in their baggage when they are still in Åre the day before their return flight. Next to Holiday Club, a satellite airport, Check-in Åre, is being set up, where passengers can drop off their baggage, which is then transported to Åre Östersund Airport.
Beginning March 4, 2019, travellers in western Sweden will be able to fly non-stop between Göteborg Landvetter Airport and Lyon in southeastern France. The Swedish carrier BRA will offer departures on Mondays and Thursdays in both directions, with a flying time of 2 hours and 30 minutes. BRA will also give passengers the option of choosing bio jet fuel when they book their flight.
Swedavia has appointed Anna Strömwall as the new Airport Director of Göteborg Landvetter Airport and as a new member of Swedavia’s Group management team. Once confirmed by the Swedish Transport Agency, she will assume the position in February.
Swedavia is laying off 125 employees as a result of an ongoing change and efficiency programme. The measures are aimed at ensuring Swedavia’s cost-effectiveness and long-term competitiveness.
The carrier Wizz Air is launching its latest direct route, which will operate twice weekly between Malmö Airport and the city of Ohrid, with its lovely lakeside location, in the Republic of Macedonia. The new air link will debut on March 18, 2019, and then operate on Mondays and Fridays with an Airbus A320.
More than 42 million passengers flew to or from one of Swedavia’s ten airports in 2018, representing a minor increase in passenger numbers compared to 2017. The number of international passengers increased with nearly 2 per cent, while the number of domestic passengers decreased with nearly 3 per cent. For December passenger traffic decreased nearly 2 per cent compared the same period last year.
Starting 19 December bio aviation fuel will be used for a couple of days at Swedish airports Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Göteborg Landvetter Airport, Bromma Stockholm Airport, Visby Airport and Luleå Airport. Swedavia is one of only a few companies in the world that have been supplied with aviation biofuel during 2018.
