Swedes make decisions about the trip several months in advance. Many Swedes give higher priority to a holiday abroad than they did 5-10 years ago, and their experience at the airport is very important. In the future, they want food from all over the world, the option of resting in “sleep pods” and whisky tasting.These are the findings in the new survey, The Traveller, carried out by Swedavia.
Some 33.4 million passengers travelled to or from one of Swedavia’s ten airports in 2013. The number of passengers is thus 1.3 million more than the previous record, set in 2102. This trend is driven mainly by increased international travel, both in Europe and beyond.
Today Swedavia is launching an international innovation challenge, Swedavia Airport Innovation Challenge 2014. The purpose of the challenge is to create an innovative solution that reduce ground noise in the residential area of Bromma Kyrka, close to Bromma Stockholm Airport.
Swedavia has now updated the Swedavia Swedish Airports app with a range of services. Most requested are the gate and boarding information for departing flights. Other features will be the time of arrival of the luggage and a travel planner for public transportation to and from the airport. The app is now available for iPhone, Android and Windows Phone 8.
Arlanda, which in the past year has carried out extensive refurbishments and opened new shops such as Victoria’s Secret, is now strengthening its retail offering by opening more new stores in Terminal 5. The latest addition will be a shopping area with brands as Samsung and Lexington as well as shop-in-shops for wellness products, a wine shop and a hand-selected assortment of exclusive perfumes.
Demand is growing especially for international non-stop service. This is indicated by an increase in travel to and from Swedavia’s airports. That, combined with an expansion in real estate business, has had a positive impact on Swedavia’s performance. From January to September, net revenue increased to SEK 3,876 M (3,631), and profit for the period totalled SEK 451 M (403).
Nationalmuseum and Swedavia have announced a joint project to exhibit art and design at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Umeå Airport. In spring 2014, an exhibition of photographic portraits of internationally celebrated Swedes will open at Arlanda, creating an opportunity for travellers to enjoy a selection of artworks from Nationalmuseum’s collection.
Göteborg Landvetter Airport is now the first airport in the world to offer passengers the opportunity to purchase “print-on-demand” reading material for their trip. At the automated newsstand kiosk, Meganews Magazines, customers choose which periodical to print and pay using their credit card. This is also a climate-smart solution since no unwanted magazines need to be printed or transported.
Beginning today and for a number of weeks, people in Stockholm will be able to sample food straight from Arlanda’s Food Truck. The vehicle will visit different places in Stockholm and sell food from different restaurants at the ariport. The Food Truck will now allow more people to explore the variety. The menu includes ramen soup with wasabi-marinated smoked salmon and truffle risotto.

Today at Stockholm Arlanda Airport was the inauguration of the new Terminal 2, which resembles a modern city airport with speedy, smooth flows. The terminal has expanded by more than 2,000 square metres. In 2015, a new baggage sorting facility will also be inaugurated, with Swedavia as a result investing a total of about 400 million Swedish kronor in the refurbishment of Terminal 2
