Thai Airways sees increased demand and restarts traffic at Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Phuket for the winter season. At the same time, they are increasing the number of departures to the capital Bangkok.
The new Icelandic low-cost carrier PLAY will set up operations for the first time in the Swedish market with a new direct route from Göteborg Landvetter Airport to the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik.
The Irish low cost carrier Ryanair sees even more opportunities in the Stockholm region and will expand access by adding a new European route to Venice from Stockholm Arlanda Airport. The route, to be launched in late March, will be the 24th addition in Ryanair’s network from the airline’s new base, which will open in late October/early November.
The French low-cost carrier Transavia France will expand at Stockholm Arlanda and enhance access with another route to France from the Swedish market, with service to Lyon, the country’s third largest city.
Swedavia is selling building rights at Göteborg Landvetter Airport to the buyer North Park Fastigheter AB. This is Swedavia’s second straight sale in the airport’s logistics area within a short time, given the continued strong demand for logistics properties.
The Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair continues to see further opportunities in the Swedish market and is expanding its range of destinations on offer with the addition of a domestic route from Stockholm this autumn. It will be Ryanair’s third domestic route in Sweden out of a total of 23 new routes.
The German low-cost carrier Eurowings continues to invest in the Swedish market and will set up a new base at Stockholm Arlanda Airport for the summer 2022 season. The carrier, owned by Lufthansa, will expand its range of destinations and improve access from Stockholm, adding twenty new direct routes in Europe.
Finnish airline Finnair will strengthen its North American services from the new base at Stockholm Arlanda Airport ahead of the winter season and is launching two new long-haul routes to Los Angeles and New York. Finnair will also introduce direct routes from Stockholm to Miami, Phuket and Bangkok, as previously announced.
Ryanair continues to invest in the Swedish market. A new route to Barcelona premiere in conjunction with the opening of the new base at Stockholm Arlanda Airport later this autumn. At the same time, Ryanair continues to expand also at Göteborg Landvetter, now adding Kaunas in Lithuania. Wizz Air continues to expand its network at Malmö Airport and increases service with a route to Sarajevo.
In the past week some very good and important news about improved connectivity to and from Sweden have been announced out of Swedavia’s airports, as Sweden has started its post-Covid-19 pandemic recovery. For the first time in 17 months travelers to and from Sweden will benefit from a non-stop long-haul service to the US.
The Finnish carrier Finnair sees international opportunities in the Swedish market and is setting up a new base at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. At the same time, it is launching three new long-haul routes for the winter season, to Bangkok, Phuket and Miami.
The aviation market is still dominated by the pandemic but at the same time shows new signs of a recovery, with the number of passengers in June reaching the highest level for a single month since March 2020.
