Laminate Flooring Cleaning & Maintenance ~ 7 Simple Steps
Maintaining laminate floors is very easy. Unlike wood flooring, you do not require any wood varnish or lacquer to polish the flooring. The advantage of good quality laminate flooring is that its color will stay the same like brand new through the test of time. All you need to do is to properly maintain and take care of it regularly.
Just follow these 7 simple steps:
1. Clean Regularly
Sweep lightly with a broom, vacuum cleaner or a dust absorbing cloth.
2. Forget About Heavy Duty Washing
Laminate flooring is water resistant and not water proof. No matter how good quality your laminate flooring is, please refrain from heavy duty washing. If you are the lazy type of home owner like me who would seldom clean the floor; it is best to install high end resilient flooring to laminate flooring instead. Try not to leave your cold class of beer on your laminate floor, use a coaster to prevent it.
3. Using a Slightly Wet Cloth
For slight stains, just use a slightly damp cloth to wipe the laminate floor clean.
4. Understand that Moisture and Humidity Are “Killers” to Laminate Flooring
Be aware of high humidity living areas such as bath rooms’ entrances, kitchen, and areas that are under direct air conditioned exposure. High levels of moisture and humidity will cause the laminate floorboard to swell in the long run. Here, selecting good quality laminate flooring is crucial; as good quality laminate flooring tends not to react aggressively to moist and humidity unlike lower graded laminate flooring.
5. No Problem for Stubborn Stains
Very stubborn stains such as paint marks, mud, nail polish, red wine and permanent marker ink, on your laminate flooring can all be removed instantly with a cloth and cleaning agent such as “thinner”.
6. Protect High Traffic Areas
Always protects frequently accessed living areas such as places near the entrances. Use a door mat to reduce the level of impact.
7. Cushion Your Furniture Legs
Always protect the flooring by putting felt pads or plastic caps on your furniture legs to prevent it from causing a dent or scratch on the flooring in the long run.
Hence, with proper upkeep and maintenance, your laminate flooring will definitely last you for a very long time, making your home look luxurious and beyond beauty.
