Pressmeddelande -

Swedish delegation to India for strengthened cooperation in health care

More than 20 Swedish government agencies, health companies and research institutes are travelling to India today to meet Indian authorities and potential customers in the Indian healthcare sector. Health is Sweden's second largest export category and the purpose of the trip is to explore business opportunities and further strengthen Swedish-Indian cooperation in the health field.

- I am very proud to lead this prominent delegation representing various areas within the health care sector in Sweden. Next year Sweden and India celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, and I hope to intensify our dialogue with the Indian health care sector even further, says Niclas Jacobson, delegation leader and Deputy Director-General at the Swedish Ministry for Health and Social Affairs.

Cancer care, infection prevention, aging and dementia care are particularly in focus. The delegation's trip begins in Mumbai with visits to the State Health Ministry and hospitals. Meetings await in Jodhpur at the All India Institute for Medical Sciences (AIIMS), which is part of the government collaboration in healthcare between Sweden and India. The delegation concludes in New Delhi with study visits to public and private healthcare providers and discussions on how Swedish solutions can best contribute to Indian healthcare.

- Swedish knowledge and products are in great demand in India. I look forward to an intense week and hope to take our partnership with India many steps forward. We are convinced that Indian-Swedish cooperation can contribute to improved health, both in India and in Sweden, as well as in the rest of the world, says Maria Helling, CEO of Swecare, which arranges the trip together with the Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs and partners.

Medical and pharmaceutical products are Sweden's second largest export category, larger than traditional Swedish export branches such as forest products and iron and steel products, according to Statistics Sweden 2021. Swedish health companies have been well established in India for decades and in 2009 a memorandum of understanding was signed in the field of health care, between the governments of Sweden and India.
