​New startup hub SUP46 celebrates one year - and continues to grow

The successful startup hub SUP46 invites the Stockholm startup community to their one-year celebration party with Skype founder Niklas Zennstrom as guest speaker. Today SUP46 also launches their new expansion plans; 650 additional square meters for Swedish startup stars.

In October last year SUP46 (Start-Up People of Sweden) opened its new premises in central Stockholm with a grand opening party. The entire Stockholm startup community attended as Spotify founder Daniel Ek officially opened the startup hub.

One year later SUP46 gathers tomorrow's Swedish success stories within Internet, media, mobile and gaming. SUP46 has quickly become an arena for Swedish as well as international investors and is the #1 meeting place for the Stockholm startup scene, with some 40 startup companies as members.

- Our member companies have attracted over 100 million SEK in capital and had an average annual growth of almost 70 %. Today we have over 200 entrepreneurs and investors as members and partners. We are happy that SUP46 has become Stockholm's natural meeting place for the startup community, with over 25,000 visitors and 275 startup events during our first year, says Jessica Stark, CEO and co-founder of SUP46.

One of the SUP46 member companies, FishBrain, has launched the world's fastest growing app and social network for the world's greatest hobby, fishing.

- Today FishBrain has over 630,000 registered users, whereof 450,000 in the US. We have also raised a $2.4M venture round that was led by Northzone and Active Venture Partners, says Johan Attby, CEO and co-founder of FishBrain.

NaturalCycles moved to Sweden and SUP46 in January. During 2014 the startup have created a lot of traction in Sweden and made quite some revenue through their subscription model.

- To be able to grow faster also internationally we are now finalising a second financing round of 1.3M dollars. We are also publishing our scientific study proofing that NaturalCycles is an effective birth control in the European Journal of Contraception, says Dr. Elina Berglund Scherwitzl, CTO and co-founder of NaturalCycles.

Now SUP46 celebrates its first successful year with a big birthday party. This evening's guest of honor and speaker is Niklas Zennström, founder of Skype and Atomico.

- A recent Atomico survey found that Stockholm is the second most prolific tech hub per capita, just behind Silicon Valley, for global IT company start-ups. So it’s especially nice to come to this type of event in Sweden and meet new entrepreneurs, says Niklas Zennström.

SUP46s vision is for Stockholm to become the world's premier startup city. To support Swedish entrepreneurs they want to build a world class ecosystem, and just in time for the one-year anniversary SUP46 now expand their business.

- This is just the beginning of an amazing journey. We have a large number of applicants, and many are queuing up to join. Now we are expanding with 650 new square meters, where we will offer office space for teams of up to ten people. However, the selections criteria are still the same, we only accept the very best, says Jessica Stark.
