Press preview for the reopening of Röhsska Museum

On Saturday the 23 February, the Röhsska museum opens again after two years of organizational restructure and rebuild. The museum will welcome visitors to a programme that opens up a dialogue about the notion of design and its impact on our everyday lives. Three temporary and one new permanent exhibition will be presented, comprising both new acquisitions and historically important objects from the design and craft collection. Welcome to the press preview on Thursday 21 February at 9 a.m.

When the Röhsska Museum reopens, it is with a clear statement that design is everywhere and is something that affects us all. The ambition with the museum´s exhibitions and programme, is to give the visitors insights into what design is and can be.

At the opening, three temporary and one new permanent exhibition will be presented. Also, the entrance of the museum has been refurbished, with an added entrance and lift for better accessibility from street level, including a new foyer and a cloakroom from entrance and basement level.

Welcome to the press preview on Thursday 21 February at 9 a.m.

We´ll start with a light breakfast where Museum Director Nina Due gives a welcome and introduction to the Röhsska museum and the programme for 2019.

Designers Fredrik Paulsen and Brynjar Sigurðarson will be present as well as film producer Malin Ingrid Johansson from Femme film, Mikael Nadele from Gajd Arkitekter, Anna Rosengren and Britta Söderqvist from Gothenburg’s Cultural Affairs Administration, and Siman Jasmin from Higab.

From 10 a.m., you are welcome to explore the museum and visit the exhibitions. The curator for each exhibition will be present, as well as designers and collaborators.

Alldeles vid Avenyn i centrala Göteborg ligger Röhsska museet. Röhsska museet är sedan det öppnade 1916 Sveriges enda specialmuseum för design och konsthantverk. Här presenteras historiska och samtida design och konsthantverk i tillfälliga och permanenta utställningar. I samlingen ryms konsthantverk, industridesign och mode liksom specialsamlingar av bland annat bokband, affischer, allmogetextiler och japanska träsnitt. Museets föremål berättar om skaparkraft, uttrycksvilja, stilar, moden och konstnärliga ideal under olika epoker och i olika världsdelar. 

Röhsska museet ingår i Göteborgs stads kulturförvaltning och arbetar utifrån stadens kulturpolitiska mål för att beröra, inspirera och möta publiken.

Röhsska museet öppnar åter den 23 februari 2019.
