Ukrainian artist Viktoriia Tofan wants to explore safe places: Artist residency during OPENART 2024

The artist Viktoriia Tofan participates in this year's edition of OpenArt through a 30-day artist residency. In the residency named Safe Place, the public space and safe places are examined through art.

During the summer, one of the participating artists in OpenArt will carry out an artist residency as part of the EU project Magic Carpets. Ukrainian Viktoriia Tofan is active in Wroclaw, Poland and will for a month, between June 15 and July 19, work with Örebro as a base in her artistic practice. She is an audiovisual artist and her focus for the residency is to explore Örebro based on questions about safety and the importance of places. In the preparatory work that takes place before her residence, she invites the people of Örebro to join and contribute to her research through a digital questionnaire.

Viktoriia Tofan wants to get to know the city of Örebro and see how the landscape has changed and which places are important to the people of Örebro. Perhaps there are places that no longer exist and have disappeared from the city map, but still live in the memory of the local population. Viktoriia is also interested in what is perceived as a safe place and whether such places exist.
