Press release -

Jessica Bäckman received 2019 Anecto Racing Memorial Fund Award

For 18 years, a person has been selected annually to the Anecto Racing Memorial Fund Award, whose purpose is to promote racing talents' good ambitions and behavior, with the aim of a career in Formula 1. The 2019 award winner is Jessica Bäckman – as the first woman ever.

Anecto Racing Memorial Fund was established already in 2002, in memory of the nine members of the karting team Anecto Racing who passed away in an airplane crash the year before. The purpose of the fund is to financially stimulate Swedish racing talents and to contribute to a career in Formula 1. It is Anette Forsman, wife and mother of two of the members who passed away, and a number of racing profiles, such as Rickard Rydell, who annually awards the driver who best promotes the purpose and goal of the fund with its ambition, talent and performance. An example of a former award winner is the now successful Indy Car driver Marcus Ericsson, who previously also competed in Formula 1. When the 2020 award was given at the Swedish Motorsport Gala on Saturday January 18th, it went historical. For the first time ever, the winner is a female driver.

First woman on the podium in TCR Europe
Jessica Bäckman was born and raised in Boden, and already entered the world of karting as a 7-year-old. In 2006, she made her debut in the North Swedish Cup, and then competed in both Stockholm, the south of Sweden and internationally. In 2018, Jessica started competing in touring cars, to fully invest in the European Championship TCR Europe in 2019 with the successful Italian Target Competition team. Over the years, Jessica has earned numerous of prestigious awards, such as a second place in TCR Germany – and the title of being the first woman ever to reach the podium in TCR Europe.
– I am very proud to receive this award; it feels amazing – not least to receive it from Philip Forsman. The award gives me a boost of confidence to make this year's racing season even better than last year, Jessica says.

Nominated for the The Citizen of the Year in Boden 2020
In addition to the honorable award from the Anecto Racing Memorial Fund, Jessica is also nominated to be the The Citizen of the Year 2020 in her hometown Boden. The winner will be announced at the Business Gala in Boden on February 22nd where the person with most received votes will win.
