Unfold: dance world premieres by Sharon Eyal and Christine Gouzelis & Paul Blackman

Hypnotic dance, sweeping movement and pulsating music in new dance works by Sharon Eyal and Christine Gouzelis & Paul Blackman. Unfold is a dance evening packed with surprises – and Dior! World premiere 30 October.

In Continuim, choreographers Paul Blackman and Christine Gouzelis explore life’s circularity, rapidity, fears and how we overcome them. Days gone past and memories of other times flash by at a pace that keeps us riveted to our seats. Continuim was created at the Göteborg Opera in autumn 2020, but its world premiere was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Paul Blackman and Christine Gouzelis run the Jukstapoz dance company in Athens. The duo’s works are rich in contrast, ranging from serious to playfully absurd. With chaos and harmony as central themes, they astound the audience with new perspectives. Continuim, the duo’s first work for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, is a fast-moving work that playfully explores the concept of time. Aided by an unusual set design, the dancers weave together different occurrences, allowing us to relive episodes, explore alternative chains of events and rebuild fragmentary memories. Is it possible to create a better history and a better future?

Mesmerising dance meets strong attitude in the creations of Israeli choreographer Sharon Eyal. Her distinctive style has a hypnotic, pulsating power that is instantly recognisable to anyone who has ever experienced it. This internationally acclaimed choreographer is queen of a mysterious universe filled with intelligent life.

In her new dance work for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, Eyal collaborates with Dior’s Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri for the costume design. The duo have collaborated several times before, primarily in Dior’s seasonal fashion collections. Now Maria Grazia Chiuri joins Sharon Eyal and her team in Gothenburg.

Sharon Eyal and GöteborgsOperans Danskompani are a love story that tours all over the world. This new work marks their third collaboration, following the success of Untitled Black (2012) and Autodance (2018). The work is already booked for guest performances in Paris, Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
