FREEDOMtravel turns from blog to magazine and gathers influencers

The Swedish digital travel magazine freedomtravel.se started as a personal blog in 2009 and has now transformed into a magazine. One of the biggest changes is that the site gathers a larger number of guest writers and influencers under the same roof.

When freedomtravel.se was started in 2009, it was a personal travel blog, written by the couple Peter and Helena Bergström. The purpose was to inspire to travel with and without a camper in Sweden and the world, but even then, there was an ambition to eventually develop the site into something more than a personal blog.

Today, freedomtravel.se is a digital travel magazine that attracts around 90,000 unique readers every month and has around 1.5 million page views per year. The number of readers is increasing rapidly and steadily, with an impressive increase of 224 percent from 2018 to 2021.

Many writers / influencers under one roof

In the beginning of 2022, a decision was made to describe the site as a travel magazine, rather than a blog. The reasons for this are several, and one of the main reasons is that the site now gathers a number of guest writers and influencers under the same roof. As a result, the content becomes more variated while the focus on travel, adventure and camping is maintained.

The new writers are presented on FREEDOMtravel's homepage with names and photos, and also get an "own" page with a presentation and links to their own sites and social media. On the writer's page, all his or her articles are presented as well.

More writers provide new opportunities

The purpose of gathering guest writers / influencers is to be able to offer readers a more varied content. By doing this, FREEDOMtravel also wants to offer destinations and other potential partners an opportunity to collaborate not only with FREEDOMtravel.se, but also with other influencers with own social media channels.

So far, a total of nine guest writers / influencers have joined and more are on the way. The ambition is to have a group of around 50 writers / influencers from both Sweden and other Nordic countries. Among the people who have joined so far there are a mix of journalists, bloggers and Instagrammers, from Sweden and Norway. Everyone has a focus on travel, some of which may be focused on camping, another on travel with children and a third on food and wine during the trip.
