The new Feed$aved trait will help to breed cows with lower feed intakes without compromising milk value. It is based on feed intake and body weight maintenance. The Feed$aved trait is also part of Geno’s feed efficiency breeding project that is researching the influence of genetics on sustainable and profitable milk production.
The Norwegian Red breeding program by Geno has supported a more environmentally friendly cow for the past four decades by strengthening traits like health and fertility alongside production. The goal is to continue breeding for these key parameters, as well as low methane production and improved feed efficiency.

Norwegian Red sires can be successfully used in almost all herd management systems and in the varied environmental conditions typically seen in modern dairy herds. In general, all NR sires will significantly improve health, fertility, calf survival and reduce body weight (resulting in lower feed consumption) when mated to Holstein cows.

Official Norwegian Red (NR) genetic evaluations for April 2020 are now available from Geno. Geno now has 37 genomic selected (GS) sires that are alive and currently available to international markets with Total Merit Index (TMI) of 25 or higher.
