ISO certification of our quality and environmental management system
Kaunis Iron is now ISO certified in two areas: quality and environment. This means that external auditors have examined our processes and seen that we meet the set requirements. The requirements are about having clear routines and good documentation, and about following the work methods we have decided.
Verdict today: Kaunis Iron may continue operations
The Land and Environmental Court says no to the Environmental Protection Agency, and Kaunis Iron may continue its current operations. However the decision limits production increases within the framework of the existing permit. “This is an important decision for all Swedish industry, that a granted permit applies,” says Klas Dagertun, CEO of Kaunis Iron.
Strong local support for continued mining operations!

Application for a new operating permit submitted
Today at 15.00 our application for a new operating permit was submitted to the Land and Environment Court in Umeå.
Kaunis Iron is applying for a permit for the existing operations in Kaunisvaara, Pajala Municipality and to begin mining operations in the nearby deposits Sahavaara and Palotieva. At full capacity operations will be more than doubled. Kaunis Iron today produces approximately 2 mill
Supplementary consultation on new environmental permit
Kaunis Iron AB is planning to apply for a completely new permit according to the Environmental Code for extraction from the iron ore deposits Tapuli, Palotieva and Sahavaara and for processing the ore therefrom in Kaunisvaara concentration plant in Pajala Municipality.
During spring 2019, Kaunis Iron began a detailed study of alternative designs for the tailings reservoir, which means that the
