New Digital Service Makes Climate Reporting Easier

The platform primarily helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) navigate complex climate requirements and effectively reduce their CO₂ footprint.

A recently completed innovation project within the Danish energy cluster has led to the digital tool NIVI, which is free for everyone to use.

CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) is a relatively new concept in Denmark. The EU directive sets new requirements for companies' reporting on climate and sustainability. Starting in 2024, large publicly listed companies must document their efforts. In 2025 and 2026, the legislation will extend to other and smaller companies – and for them, NIVI could become a critical tool. The platform was developed with the need for a user-friendly tool in mind, especially for SMEs, which often lack the necessary internal resources and competencies to handle climate reporting on their own.

"We know that small and medium-sized companies, in particular, can see the increasing climate reporting requirements as a barrier that is difficult to overcome. With NIVI, we’ve created a tool that makes it easy and intuitive for companies to navigate the complex reporting requirements, so they can focus on action and improving their climate footprint rather than struggling with technical details," says Rune Loftager, partner at @NIVI Digital.

Result of an Innovation Project

The NIVI platform was developed through an innovation project in close collaboration between Copenhagen Energy Partners and Niteva Soft, leading to the establishment of the company NIVI Digital. The project was facilitated by Energy Cluster Denmark and supported by the EU and the Danish Business Promotion Board.

"With the launch of NIVI, we now have a user-friendly tool that can help companies meet the increasingly stringent climate requirements. It’s part of our effort to make important tools like carbon accounting, LCAs, and similar resources more accessible to companies of all sizes. This is a key step toward a more sustainable future, where businesses across industries can take responsibility for their climate footprint," concludes Rune Loftager.

The platform is verified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), which helps ensure high accuracy and credibility in the results.
