US expert praises Morocco's "very clear" vision in the international fight against Daech

Niamey - The Kingdom of Morocco has a "very clear" vision in terms of international fight against Daech, based on a comprehensive approach to the challenges of terrorism, said Thursday in Niamey, the executive secretary of the International Institute for Justice and Rule of Law, Steven Hill.

Morocco's role as co-chair of this meeting is very important in the sense that the Kingdom has a very clear vision in the international fight against Daech, Hill said in a statement to MAP on the sidelines of the plenary meeting of the Africa Focus Group of the Global Coalition Against Daech, noting that this vision is based on a comprehensive approach to the challenges of terrorism.

The American expert stressed the importance of this meeting, co-chaired by Morocco, the United States, Italy and Niger, in intensifying efforts and strengthening international cooperation to deal with terrorism, particularly in Africa.

"Obviously, terrorism is a threat that cannot be fought by military means alone. But a more global vision is needed to address the needs of countries and populations affected by terrorist threats," the American expert said, adding that this element was brought by Morocco in its discussions.

Morocco stressed during the meeting the importance of focusing on innovative solutions to counter terrorism and violent extremism and this is crucial, Hill said.

A large Moroccan delegation led by the Director of Global Issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Ismail Chekkori, is taking part in the two-day meeting, which follows the first plenary meeting of the Group on the African continent hosted by Marrakech last May, on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition against Daech.

Morocco's participation in the plenary meeting of the Africa Focus Group is an opportunity to reiterate the Kingdom's support and commitment to the security and stability of Africa in general, and the Sahel in particular, in view of the common history, strong human ties and shared interests between this region and Morocco.

Morocco's co-chairmanship of this working group confirms its leading role in the fight against terrorism, as a provider of peace and stability in Africa, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. It is also a recognition of the Kingdom's pioneering advocacy within the Coalition to adequately address the evolving terrorist threat in Africa.

It also clearly reflects the principles of the Kingdom's policy, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, which considers the security and stability of the African continent to be a collective priority.

It should be recalled that Morocco is currently co-chairing the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum (GCTF) with the European Union.
