Since 1977, Chr. Hansen has built a sustainable business on the Brazilian market and is well positioned for the future.

Hansen Central and South America
10 percent of global turnover
In 1977, aafter decades of working through distributors, Chr. Hansen decided to establish its own company in order to get closer to the market.
Today, the Brazilian subsidiary occupies an area of 27,000 m² and employs 124 professionals in production, sales and administration. And the South and Central American region has grown to represent 10 % of the global turnover.
Making a social difference
From the start, Chr. Hansen Brazil has been committed to making a difference in the local community, and over the years the company has initiated or taken part in many social projects, for instance donating old computers to school children.
Most recently, Chr. Hansen is working with global food producer Unilever on the "More Life" project (Projeto Mais Vida), aiming at improving the life quality of 3,400 families from Araçoiaba city in North Eastern Brazil. These families are now making a living as annatto producers, supplying raw material for Chr. Hansen’s production of natural colors.
"We were happy to be invited to take part in this important project. Through this initiative, new entrepreneurs will be identified and helped to generate their own incomes, assuring sustainability going forward," concludes Sten Estrup.
