Volt - the festival for electronic music
Saturday, June 7, 20:00-03:00

For the sixth year in a row Volt - the festival for electronic music - will take over Uppsala Konsert & Kongress. Live artists and DJ's will play all night long on four big stages and one bar stage. As in previous years, the music will be framed by striking visuals and custom lights. There will also be interactive installations.

The Volt program is now final. A total of 21 acts will perform on five stages during seven hours. Electronic music is the absolute focus. The genres will vary between beautiful ambient, futuristic r'n'b/electronica-pop, avant-garde dub, hard-hitting house, pounding techno and challenging noise and industrial music

Last year Volt was named the world's (!) most equal festival in DJ-network Female:Pressure's examination of the number of female artists booked at music festivals. Out of all the artists performing at Volt 2013, 39% were women.
-Equality is an extremely important issue that the electronic music scene has at times fallen behind on. After last year's investigation by Female:Pressure we were happy, but not satisfied. We have been more successful with the representation of female artists and DJ's this year, says Patric Kiraly, producer and project manager for the festival and one the members of the Uppsala Konsert & Kongress concert board.

Out of the 21 artists performing 11 are female, 7 male and 3 mixed. This means that female artists make up 52% of the program. Among the more renowned are the American techno artist Laurel Halo (who's album Chance of Rain ended up on a lot of best-of lists last year), German Helena Hauf (who releases albums on the hailed Werkdiscs label), British Paula Temple (a very skilled and very busy DJ) and from Sweden Johanna Knutsson (who DJ's, produces, makes mixes for P3 and runs her own vinyl label Zodiac 44 from her home in Berlin).

Complete Program:

Live: Actress (UK), Laurel Halo (US), Wife (UK), Esplendor Geométrico & Mokira (ES/SE), Vatican Shadow (US), Anna Zaradny (PL), Gamla Huset (SE), RytmisKonsekvens (SE).
